It’s November…wait, what? What happened to 2018?
Well, here’s the good news. The year may have mostly gotten away from you, but you still have 60 days to accomplish something great. I suggest you focus on an attitude of gratitude and use November and December to thank people for the things you appreciate about them.
William Arthur Ward once said “Gratitude can transform common days into thanksgivings, turn routine jobs into joy, and change ordinary opportunities into blessings.” How right he was; the power of a simple Thank You for something said or done can go a long way. Look around you, and observe all of the greatness your family, friends or coworkers possess every day and exhibit through their actions. What if you actually took the time to recognize their efforts and achievements? How would that make them feel? How would it make YOU feel to receive this from your boss, your workmate, or a customer?
Thank the gardener for her great work outside your building. Thank a workmate for his efforts on a certain project he is working hard to complete. Thank you child for the chores he completes around the house. See if you can do this at least once per day, until the new year. That will be 60 instances of gratitude, and you will probably have developed a habit of it by then as well.
You will be amazed the effect this has on the recipients – happier outlooks, better performance, gratitude returned to you or paid forward. This stuff is contagious, I tell you. Even if you thank a stranger that you will never see, the result is more happiness and positivity for you and them. You will feel more fulfilled, and inspired to do great things as well. But don’t take my word for it – hit these next two months hard and send out your thanks to those who deserve to hear about their great efforts. The more you give, the better you will feel. You won’t be disappointed!
